‘Escape to Paradise’ – An International Project with a difference
We write this letter to you seeking your valued participation for our project ‘Escape to Paradise’ to be held from the 28th of January to the 6th of February, 2011.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo, the pioneer Rotaract Club in Sri Lanka is synonymous with spearheading numerous charitable projects to benefit the community. The club engages in a number of projects within the four avenues of service and falls under the guardianship of the Rotary Club of Colombo. To give you an insight of our Club’s activities, please find a few of our community service projects listed below:
‘Reachout’ – A joint project with our sister club, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Regent to help victims of the aftermath of the tsunami, consisting of three phases; immediate relief, Counseling & Provision of secondary items and Rebuilding of houses and pre-schools.
Kalpitiya School Project – An English Teaching project initially designed to teach children sitting for their ordinary level examinations and now expanded to classes for younger children, most of which are from families that are internally displaced (IDP) due to war.
Charity Apple – A website created bringing together various charity organizations, centers for the differently able children, orphanages, elder’s homes and animal welfare centers. This website facilitates not only cash donations but also gives opportunities to volunteers in Sri Lanka and around the world. (http://www.charityapple.org/) .
Back to School – Phase I & II – The Phase 1 project will be focusing on supporting children go back to school (school dropouts) from five tsunami resettled villages within Bandaragama, Moratuwa and Kalutara. This project will commence from the 1st of January, 2009. The Phase 2 concept will be focusing on building pre-schools in the Kalutara District.
Shelter for ē Homeless – A project focusing in providing shelter for street children, in partnership with ‘Save the Children’ and the ‘Consortium for Humanitarian Agencies (CHA)’, two of the reputed INGOs in Sri Lanka.
The Shoe Box Project – Shoes Boxes labeled with the needs of a less fortunate child will be made available at leading shopping outlets for anyone who wishes to make a difference during this season of giving.

‘Escape to Paradise’ –This project is an exceptional initiative by the Rotaract Club of Colombo, which brings together Rotaractors from different parts of the world to share a memorable experience of Sri Lanka.
Project Brief: Applications are encouraged from all regions of the globe; diversity of cultural backgrounds being one of the key focus of the programme. 10 participants will be chosen by the Club, based purely on merit, for an incredible 10 day tour of our island, Sri Lanka – a true escape to paradise!
Each day will involve sightseeing and interactive activities for the participants as they tour the island from the busy city limits of Colombo all the way up to the scenic hills of Nuwara Eliya, to the sandy beaches of the South and back. The Club will be working closely with the District Rotaract organization in order to facilitate the smooth running of the programme.
Project Objectives:
- To enhance understanding, tolerance and harmony amongst people of different cultures and backgrounds.
- To promote and encourage tourism in Sri Lanka.
- To exchange cross border information.

This 10 day stay in Sri Lanka will be free for the 10 ETP participants (cost of the air tickets and ad hoc personal expenses such as shopping etc, to be borne by the participants).
Applications must be submitted online before the 10th of November 2010 along with a non confirmed tentative travel itinerary and if possible, air ticket details.
